Next time you feel yourself being drawn into a fight with your partner, take a breath.
Yep, that sounds like ..duh. But think back to your last fight or argument and recall how it started. Most likely there were signs: your irritation rose, maybe you felt your breath quicken, your heart beat more rapidly, handpalms clammy, the urge to scream or throw something or other physical or emotional signs.
Clearly, the temperature rose...
It seems to move so quickly - and it does... but still there is time to change course.
Next time you start to experience any of these small signs: take a breath, a deep one, to calm your system. And another one. Do not give into the temptation of being sucked into your cycle of negativity. This way you take a step back from the seduction of giving in to this irritation or rage. See part 2 on Take a breath
